It’s amazing what you might discover by taking the road less traveled.
The kids were itching to get out of the house even if it meant driving down the street for an errand. So on the way back, we took a route which lead us through rolling green hills, only an occasional passing car and the roadsides dotted with sporadic openings carved out of the berms.

Having no job to hurry off to, we pulled over a few times to do some exploring. We discovered a huge hidden cavern, too far under the hillside to explore with out flashlights and no one else knowing our whereabouts. Even so, the kids were thrilled with the experience.

I understand not everyone has the advantage of living on a tropical island with opportunities to escape the masses for some fresh air. But what my take away from today’s experience was not what we discovered, but rather the value of the time we spent together doing something out of the ordinary. The kiddos will remember this day.
